After a five-year break from the music industry, Faith Evans
is planning her return to music with her sixth album titled “Something About Faith,” which is slated for an Oct. 5 release. The album’s first single, ballad
“Gone Already,” is currently at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Along with a new album, Evans is also prepping a realityshow that will feature herself with Misa Hylton-Brim, a fashion boutique owner, and mother of rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ eldest son. The show is aptly titled “First Ladies,” and will chronicle the two’s friendship and how they balance being mothers and businesswomen.
Evans told Billboard.com, “Music is still the huge love of my life. It’s a fun business, but the checks don’t come as regularly. And when they do, it’s not always the same amount.”
To make sure that the checks continue to roll in, Evans is taking advantage of other opportunities which include developing her own music company, Prolific Music Group, which her sixth album will be released under through distribution with eOne Music. She is also the face for Glass Hair, top of the line hair care products that are based in Venice, Calif. at a salon of the same name. A sitcom is also in production, that Evans began writing three years ago, that is loosely based on her life.
Along with the other projects Evans is focusing on, she is preparing to write her second book. Her first book was a 2008 best-selling autobiography titled, “Keep the Faith,” that was written with contributor Aliya S. King. Evans plans to release another book next year with King as a contributor that will give advice about starting a career in the music industry.
Evans has had her fair share of personal problems in and out the spotlight. Her most recent was a DUI checkpoint arrest in August, which took place during the weekend of her video shoot for the single “Gone Already.” Evans says that she was back at the video shoot at 10 a.m. the following day of the arrest, and that if it was a big deal that the media made it out to be, she “wouldn’t have been in and out like that.”
These days Evans is describing herself as the “CEO of my career.” She is balancing her roles as a mother and entrepreneur and is transitioning from a major label to an indie.
“I’ve been blessed,” she tells Billboard.com.
